Inclusion in education involves valuing everyone and putting those inclusive values into action. At St Joseph’s Primary School we believe that everybody has the right to be included in all aspects of school life. We value the individuality of all children and we are committed to giving all our children every opportunity to achieve the highest of standards. We do this by taking account of pupils’ varied life experiences and needs. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum and have high expectations of all our children. The achievements, attitudes and well being of all our children matter. The school promotes the individuality of all our children, irrespective of ethnicity, attainment, age, disability, gender or background.
The school aims to meet the many and varied needs of a wide range of students with special educational needs. The SENCO is a qualified teacher and has a Post Graduate Level Qualification in SEN. The school has a team of Teaching Assistants (TAs) and Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs). We support students with a range of needs in the following areas:
- Communication and interaction
- Cognition and learning
- Social, mental and emotional health
- Sensory and or physical
The school has a qualified Teaching Assistant who is the EAL (English as an Additional Language) coordinator.
The Deputy Head is the lead for Pupil Premium.
Pupil Premium, which is financed by the government, is funded separately to main school funding and is available for children eligible for free school meals (FSM). It was introduced in April 2011 and is allocated to schools to work with pupils who have been registered for free school meals at any point in the last six years (known as ‘Ever 6 FSM’).
Schools also receive funding for children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months, and children of service personnel.
