St Joseph's Remembers - Remembrance Sunday and Remembrance Day November 2024

Barnet SACRE Interfaith Choir Performance at Interfaith Peace Vigil

On Thursday 25th January 2024, the Barnet SACRE Interfaith Choir, founded by Dr. Alan Shaw, of which St Joseph's Catholic Primary School are proud members of, had their first professional performance of the year.
Around 30 of our pupils within Years 4, 5 and 6 are members of the Interfaith Choir, and the vast majority of them performed a selection of songs at an Interfaith Peace Vigil at Middlesex University, alongside two other Primary Schools in the borough.
The event was organised jointly by the Barnet Multifaith Forum and Together with Humanity. The programme included talks by senior faith leaders from many religions, the Mayor and invited celebrities.
The choir had the opportunity to perform alongside Award Winning Singer Songwriter and BBC Radio 2 Playlisted Artist Tally Koren.
Tally has been using her voice in the last few years to build bridges between different cultures with her UK tour 'Vision of Hope', with the message - "We all speak the same language through music."

Y4 Commonwealth flag raising

Pupil in Year 4 went to the Commonwealth flag raising this morning at Barnet Town Hall on 13 March 2023.

Year 4 are now part of history, as the flag is raised with a new Monarch, King Charles III on the throne.

World Religion Week at St Joseph's

World religion week promotes interfaith understanding and harmony. It encourages all religions to recognise the similarities between them and it highlights that religion plays a role in bringing humanity together.
Every day, classes explored a different world religion including Sikhism, Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism and Islam.

St Joseph's Day - 19 March 2021

Prayer of St Joseph

St. Joseph,
Foster father and guardian of Jesus,
Husband of Mary and patron of our school,
We call upon you to be our guide and protector.
As we follow your example,
Let us be caring, helpful and always prepared to do our best.
We pray for all who help us grow into the person God wants us to be.
We make our prayer through Christ Our Lord.

Amen

World Book Day

This year the focus of our celebration of reading on World Book Day will be Judith Kerr, author of many amazing books for children of all ages.

The books we have been enjoying are:
Reception and Nursery- The Tiger Who Came to Tea
Year 1 and Year 2- A selection of Mog the Cat stories
Year 3 and Year 4 - The Curse of School Rabbit
Year 5 and Year 6 When Hitler Stole the Pink Rabbit

The children are invited to dress-up in pyjamas on the day, as part of our Bedtime Reading theme. In Reception we are looking forward to seeing fabulous tigers.

A visit from Falconry UK

We had a visit from Faconry UK as part of Science Week. We met Bailey - the White Faced Scops Owl, Blu - the Blue Winged Kookaburra, Pickle - the Tropical Screech Owl, Rocco - the Pygmy Falcon and Brooklyn - the Verreaux Milky Eagle Owl.

This is what our children said:
'The owl is very big and heavy'
'It was so exciting to see the birds and learn about them'
'I was a little bit scared but then I loved it'

The gallery below shows what St Joseph's have been up to when Falconry UK visited:
