Our Governors
The governing board is responsible for strategic leadership in school. Each individual governor is a member of a governing board, which is established in law as a corporate body.
St Joseph’s governing board is made up of seven foundation governors appointed by the Archbishop of Westminster, two parent governors elected by parents, the head teacher, one staff governor elected by staff and one local authority governor appointed by Barnet local authority. The governors work in close partnership with the head teacher to achieve excellence in outcomes for our pupils. Governors monitor progress through data produced by the school and reports from various people including the head teacher and commissioned work. The Governing Body meets twice a term to conduct its business. Aspects of the governing board’s strategic work is carried out by committees which meet throughout the year. St Joseph’s has four standing committees; Catholic Life & Pastoral Care, Resources, Premises Health & Safety and the Teaching, Learning & Achievement. In addition to this there are various ad hoc committees which meet throughout the year when the need arises.
The Governors are responsible for:
- Ensuring The Catholic character and ethos of the school is maintained;
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the performance management of staff; and
- Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.
