Prayer is at the heart of the daily life of St Joseph’s. Children experience different forms of prayer appropriate to their age and stage of development.

Celebrations of the Word provide opportunities for pupils to encounter scripture and respond to God’s Word. The four stages should be shown prominently and in order.

At St Joseph’s, pupils are supported to take increasing responsibility for preparing and leading prayer. As confidence and understanding develop, pupils are encouraged to participate more actively and make appropriate choices about scripture, prayer, music, symbols and responses.

This is an area we are continuing to develop across the school.

Our chapel and prayer spaces around school reflect the liturgical year and provide visible reminders of our Catholic identity. Scripture, crucifixes, candles, religious images, liturgical colours and other appropriate symbols help pupils recognise these as places of prayer and reflection.

Our prayer and liturgical life follows the rhythm of the Church’s year. Pupils encounter scripture, prayer, symbols and traditions that help them participate in the life of the Church

The Eucharist is at the heart of Catholic life. Throughout their time at St Joseph’s, pupils have opportunities to participate in the celebration of Mass and to deepen their understanding of the Eucharist. Our relationship with Our Lady of Dolours strengthens children’s experience of belonging to the wider worshipping community of the Church.
